State Farm Fire and Casualty Co. filed a complaint on July 19, 2012 in Pennsylvania against Jerry Sandusky. They are asking for a judge to rule that his homeowners' policy does not cover the cost of his criminal defense or civil lawsuits brought by his victims.
Jerry Sandusky was found guilty of 45 charges brought against him for sexually abusing at least 10 young boys between the years of 1994 and 2008.
In the complaint State Farm declares that Mr. Sandusky has asked the insurer to pay for the legal costs of his criminal defense.
Homeowners' insurance can offer personal liability protection from actions where the insured was found negligent. Homeowners' insurance will not cover intentional acts. It is most likely that the judge will rule in favor of State Farm. The actions of Mr. Sandusky were intentional and calculated; therefore it nullifies the financial responsibility of State Farm and leaves him liable for all of the damage he caused.
