Did you know that 100,000 auto accidents occur annually due to texting while driving? There are too many tragic stories of people who took their eyes off the road for a split second to look at their phone or to respond to a text while driving and within those few seconds their lives were irrevocably changed.
Acclaimed filmmaker Werner Herzog is working with major wireless carriers to reach millions with his powerful documentary “From One Second to the Next.” His message is simple, texting and driving is dangerous. Herzog aims to illustrate the potential consequences of picking up your phone while driving. The 35-minute film explores the traumatic stories of the individuals who caused the accidents and the people whose lives have been forever changed by them.
In a recent poll by AT&T, nearly half of commuters’ self-reported texting while driving and about 43% called it a “habit.” Commuters are texting and driving more frequently than teens. 98% of the commuters surveyed admitted that they know sending a text or email while driving isn’t safe.
The “It Can Wait” campaign encourages individuals to pledge not to text and drive and it provides ways for those who have made the commitment to influence others to do the same. The documentary is being distributed to more than 40,000 high schools nationwide and hundreds of safety organizations and government agencies.
The "It Can Wait" campaign is supported by the four largest U.S. wireless carriers and more than 200 other organizations and companies.
